Tiago Alves de Sousa is one of the most talented enol
ogists in the Douro valley and does both well: Port and Douro wines. In the early 1990s the Alves de Sousa family focused more on Douro wines than Port, which is easily recognizable when it comes down to the quality especially on their flagship wine Abandonado.
Bright dark red color with intense reflections. Precise bouquet with fresh cherry fruit, chocolate and an intensive structure, menthol and some herbs and cedar in the background. Fine tannic structure and perfectly supporting acidity on the palate. Intense, but balanced red-berry fruit with cherry and chocolate. Slightly adstringent in the long aftertaste. 18+/20
